On Tuesday evening, November 28, 2023, at 17:00, H.E. Dr. PROM Vicheth Akara, Acting Secretary-General of the Constitutional Council and High Representative of H.E. Mr. Kittinitekorsalbandit IM Chhun Lim, President of the Constitutional Council of the Kingdom of Cambodia, went to the gathering area of the boat rowers in Khan Chroy Changvar to hand over a sum of 1.5 million riels, which is the personal money of H.E. Mr. Kittinitekorsalbandit President, to the representatives of rowers of the 3 pirogues of Kratie province, who won the competition for 3 consecutive days, in addition to the sum of money of 10 million riels that was already given before the race. H.E. Dr. PROM Vicheth Akara conveyed the message of H.E. Mr. Kittinitekorsalbandit IM Chhun Lim to all the oarsmen by encouraging and congratulating them for their efforts and those of Kratie's pirogue committee for bringing victory to Kratie province. Although not ranked, he added, thanks to your efforts, you have greatly contributed to promoting the culture, tradition, and customs of the Water Festival celebration, a traditional Khmer royal ceremony marked by the canoes racing, the convoy of illuminated boats, the worshiping of the moon, and the tasting of roasted rice, and to raising the image of Kratie province to greater recognition in this field of boat racing. It should be noted that Kratie province has in total 20 pirogues, including 4 in exceptional size and 16 in international size, and a total of 946 rowers (299 substitutes) who are to compete in this year's Water Festival.
